The year kicked off with notable shifts in the economy and local real estate. The Fed held its benchmark rate steady, while mortgage rates dipped below 7%, offering some relief to buyers. Despite market volatility, stocks remain high, supporting household wealth. However, a climate-related disaster in the state brought significant human and financial impacts that will take years to fully assess. Locally, the real estate market saw its typical new year rebound, and in the Bay Area, we are already approaching the early signs of spring—a season known for competitive conditions and some of the highest median home prices of the year.
